Hublot joins hands with HOCA to present KAWS

ALONG THE WAY curated by Germano Celant during the Hong Kong art month

Sticking to its hallmark “Art of Fusion” philosophy, HUBLOT manifests the art of watchmaking by means of showcasing various art pieces. Apart from partnering with world renowned artists, the Swiss watchmaker is a passionate patron of art events. After sponsoring the contemporary art exhibition Taipei Dangdai in January, HUBLOT joined hands with Fosun Foundation to hold Yayoi Kusama: All About Love Speaks Forever exhibition for the avant-garde Japanese artist in Shanghai and the Grand Opening of Tank Shanghai in March. In Hong Kong, HUBLOT collaborated with Hong Kong Contemporary Art (HOCA) Foundation to present KAWS: ALONG THE WAY curated by Germano Celant starting from 25th March 2019 during the Hong Kong art month.

KAWS: ALONG THE WAY curated by Germano Celant, a major survey spanning one decade of the artist’s studio practice, took place at PMQ, 35 Aberdeen Street, Central, Hong Kong, from 25th March to 14th April 2019. Featuring works from 2008 to the present, this comprehensive solo exhibition displayed pieces that have never been presented in Hong Kong before. Curated thematically and chronologically, the survey included some of the artist’s most iconic characters such as the CHUM and COMPANION series as well as his more recent cycle of works titled YOU.

As an in-depth survey of KAWS’s oeuvre, KAWS: ALONG THE WAY displays a selection of 37 works, ranging from larger-than-life outdoor sculptures, to most recent paintings as well as early pieces. The exhibition took over both the indoor and outdoor spaces of PMQ, with a sizeable, 5.5-metre-tall sculpture ALONG THE WAY (2015) greeting visitors in the Courtyard. At this global debut, the towering pair of COMPANION figures, with their arms around each other in a gentle embrace, are expected to bring contemporary art and design closer to the public. With joyous characters as a part of a shared visual memory, offering a mixture of bold colours, personalised iconographies and a touch of humour, other exhibition highlights included iconic pieces such as NEW MORNING (2012), an 8-foot-tall pink ACCOMPLICE sculpture and two pieces from the artist’s YOU series.

Exploring the “Art of Fusion”, HUBLOT will continue to work with artists from different backgrounds and genres to create more artistic timepieces with revolutionary innovation and creativity. As “Art of Fusion” graces the Greater China region, HUBLOT will present even more masterpieces to the community and add glamour to both the world of art and watchmaking.
